Improve your golf in the winter and your whole body for life

Improve your golf in the winter and your whole body for life

Paul Kochoa, PT, DPT, OCS, CKPT, CGFI

Even though the temps are dropping, frost is on the ground, and snow is in the air; now is the best time to think about your golf game.  Sound strange?  Well it’s the off season, and now is the best time to improve your game by improving your body.

I’ve had a couple patients come in to the office and ask if I was the one “involved with the golf”.  Why yes, I am a Titleist Performance Institute certified golf medical professional.  I can assess your body’s posture, mobility, and stability; and then test components of your golf swing.  With this data, we can prescribe the correct exercises to address your limitations and prevent injury in the long run.  Move better, feel better, and then play better.

This is the prime time to find out what issues you’re having or why your shoulder hurts when you play golf, and then fix them correctly so that next season, you’re ready to go. (By the way, that issue with your shoulder… it might not be due to your shoulder after all)

But it’s not just for golf. You want to be able to play tennis better? You want to be able to go down the stairs without pain? You want to pick up your kids and swing them around the air without pain? Assessment and treatment of movement dysfunctions is what we do.

As a physiotherapist and golf medical professional, I have a unique perspective on sports and activities of daily living.  A golf movement assessment not only finds out your limitations with your golf swing, but also exposes movement limitations that can affect your everyday life.  It’s a win-win situation.

This is the best time to improve your body, you don’t have to worry about playing golf and making temporary changes to your body like a weekend warrior.  It’s time to assess what’s holding you back from moving better and playing your best.  It’s not too early or too late to make a change for the better.
